Quote of the Day
"If you are from an ordinary working class family, life is just much harder than many people in politics realise."
Theresa May
(May 10th 2026)
Well here we are. Three days on from massive Labour defeats at the polls. The Labour Party started Thursday morning with 2464 councillors and ended up with 1068 councillors, a loss of 1496 councillors. Whereas Reform who started the day with 2 councillors ended up with 1451 councillors.
Sir Kier Starmer has taken the most of the blame. Most Labour MPs will now be dreading the prospect of this deeply unpopular Prime Minister leading them into the next General Election. However since the one thing that parliamentarians generally lack - a backbone and a will to wield the knife - this leaves Starmer firmly in charge.
However all is not lost. In the distance we can hear the hoofbeats of St. Andy of Burnham's white charger coming to the Labour Party's rescue - once he is elected to the Houses of Parliament - once he is elected leader - once he is proclaimed the Prime Minister, that is.
No Problem
Well, first there has to be a sacrificial MP who is prepared to make way for St Andy's ambition. Then assuming St. Andy wins the seat with Reform and the Greens baying at his heels. The Labour supporters in whichever constituency he rocks up at may not be too keen to have an MP who is using them as a stepping stone to becoming the next leader of the party, and consequently, the Prime Minister .... at the third attempt.
We don't wish to be negative, but at these recent elections, Labour lost most votes, percentage wise, in seats where they were the incumbents.
Comment:
So there you have it. St. Andy may end up flying by the seat of his pants. No leader's seat, no seat in parliament, no Mayoralty seat. All puns intended.
