How MP's are selected

Rather obviously each political party has its own way of selecting parliamentary candidates. We believe you should read the selection criteria of each Party in the relevant sections of their websites if you wish to know more.

As the rules governing MP selection are complex and the results of selection interviews secret we suspect it is more about making it extremely difficult to succeed if you are not in the the Public School/Oxbridge club.

Once a person is selected and elected as an MP it would be very unlikely that they would ever be removed by the Party, so it is a job for life, unless the electorate sees sense and gets rid of them.

After the 'Expenses Scandal' it is obvious that dishonesty is no bar to remaining an MP. Very few, if any MP's were de-selected because of stealing from the taxpayer.
